Mound Laser 'Rain Garden' Visit

We got to go over to Mound Laser and help plant some plants in the ground for rain garden that they incorporated into their landscaping. Before we started working we got to learn about different kinds of plants and their affects on the ground and environment. We learned that the different plants helped to prevent natural erosion that is caused by the run off of water. The instructor for our day at mound Laser told us that this wasn't really a rain garden, but it was a bioswale. Below is a picture of a bioswale and how it affects the environment.
Credit of picture goes to www.greeningthegray.org

After we learned all about bioswales and other important factors of plants and such on the environment we got to grab our shovels and get to work planting the flowers and shrubs.

If we graded the bioswale with the rubrics we created I would grade it on these three principles
1. Environmental Impact (the bioswale positively affects the environment)
2. Sustainability (We used recyclable plastics to hold the plants before we planted them we also used mulch which is decomposed material such as leaves.)
3. Conservation (the bioswale is sustainable and is able to be improved and changed so that its positive effects increase.)

I'll always remember how if felt to put the plant down into the ground and know that I just helped the environment even if it was just in a small way.

Here's a picture from that day
